Acupuncture wimbledon fertility and IVF support clinic

Acupuncture, on its own is frequently used as a way of treating female and male fertility problems.
It is also the most effective complementary therapy to modern fertility treatments. When used alone, though, acupuncture is most effective for couples who are experiencing some sort of functional problem, such as irregular ovulation.
When a structural problem is diagnosed, such as severe endometriosis causing scaring tissue, blocked fallopian tube, or for a man a blockage in the sperm ducts, acupuncture is very useful as a support to conventional medical treatment.
I may also recommend Chinese herbs for infertility, or homeopathic remedies that will support your acupuncture treatment and any other treatment you may be receiving. Some herbs can interfere with the function of fertility drugs and procedures, you would stop taking herbs when a IVF cycle start.

Acupuncture has been proven to be especially beneficial when used as a complementary therapy for women undergoing conventional fertility treatments. Acupuncture works by helping women stay more relaxed through stressful fertility treatments, it also increase blood flow into the pelvis and reproductive system; Acupuncture also improve hormonal stability. Some studies have shown that acupuncture definitely increases the rate of pregnancy in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
A well known German study showed that of the 80 women who underwent IVF and received acupuncture, 34 women got pregnant, a success rate of 42.5%. Of the 80 women involved in the study who received IVF without any acupuncture treatments, only 21 women (26.3%) became pregnant. A recent American study involving 114 women showed that 51% of the women who had acupuncture and IVF treatments became pregnant versus only 36% of the women who had IVF alone. Further analysis of this study revealed that, while 8% of the women in the acupuncture group miscarried, the rate of miscarriage in the IVF-only group was 20%. Furthermore, women who received acupuncture also had lower rates of ectopic pregnancies.
I started helping women with fertility problem and going through IVF in 1983
It is essential to optimise your health prior to conception. Poor health can adversely affect fertility. It therefore makes good sense for both partners to get in the best possible shape prior to trying to conceive. Many couples have found that acupuncture combined with a few nutritional and lifestyle adjustments has helped them to have a baby naturally. According to Chinese medicine the health of both parents at the time of conception determines the health of the child - improving your health can increase the likelihood of a healthy pregnancy and baby; this is likened to preparing the ground before planting the seed – the condition of the soil determines whether it will germinate and how well it will grow.
Balancing the reproductive system involve using acupuncture at specific times in the menstrual cycle to balance reproductive system and make it function as best as it can; by stimulating the follicular and ovulatory phase and resolving problems such as painful periods and irregular cycles the menstrual cycle can be helped to run smoothly and natural fertility enhanced.
Acupuncture can be very effective for conditions such as irregular cycles, PCOS, or endometriosis. Acupuncture can also help with male fertility issues, with a positive effects on sperm count, morphology and mobility and conditions such as sperm antibodies.
Couples having difficulty conceiving can experience high levels of prolonged stress, anxiety and depression. It is known that stress has an adverse effect on the fertility hormones in both men and women and acupuncture helps to reduce stress, establish positive, constructive frame of mind which often allow a more successful outcome for conception. I treat women with acupuncture and Chinese herbal Medicine to prepare for conception and pregnancy; this is recommended for women who wish to maximise their chances of a natural conception or prior to having assisted conception treatment. It is also suitable for women who may have had an unsuccessful IVF cycle and wish to use the break between cycles to rebalance hormone levels. I suggest you start treatment at least three months before trying to conceive. For some couples, assisted conception techniques such as IVF, IUI or ICSI may be the best option; in this case I suggest a course of specific acupuncture treatments  to support you through your particular fertility procedure. Ideally i recommend that you start acupuncture at least 3 months prior to beginning an assisted conception cycle, such as IVF, ICSI or IUI.  However, if this is not possible regular acupuncture sessions from the start of fertility medication  until procedure date can still be effective. Treatment is based upon traditional theories combined with the latest evidence based approaches and is designed to improve blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, increase your responsiveness to fertility hormones, reduce and minimise side effects, reduce uterine contractions after embryo transfer, reduce stress during the treatment cycle

Acupuncture after Egg Transfer Research has shown that acupuncture given after egg transfer can improve pregnancy rates by up to 65%. I offer this treatment as part of an IVF support programme or by itself, and I will be available for this treatment on sundays and bank holidays I recommend acupuncture treatment should continue over the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, especially if the pregnancy is as a result of a successful assisted conception cycle, or you have a history of miscarriage. The treatments are gentle and are designed to support a healthy pregnancy and ease morning sickness.
